About Rose Water

One could say rose water from Morocco is the fountain of youth with astringent properties being known. It also has many other applications due to its wonderous attributes.

In Morocco, only the best roses are used to make rose oil/water. These roses come from a Region called, Kelaat M’Gouna where you will find green valleys (Valley of roses) amidst a desert. Here, the most fragrant roses are grown, known as the “damask rose.” The Damask Rose was first introduced to Kelaat M’Gouna by the French in 1938. The first rose water distillery opened soon after. And from this, the most expensive rose known as rose “otto” is cultivated. The petals from these fragrant roses are used to extract rose oil. Rose water is a by-product of this process. Interesting fact, It takes 4000 tons of roses, from 4200 km of rose bushes to come up with a single liter of rose oil, making rose oil even more costly than its cousin, prickly pear seed oil.

Distillation Process

Depending on the origin and manufacturing method, rose water is obtained from the sepals and petals of Rosa × damascena by steam distillation. Rose water is essentially a flavored  water made by steeping rose petals in water.  Rose Water created by steam-distillation of the fresh rose petals has much more wellness benefits than rose water made by mixing rose oil and distilled water.  Rose water made this way has a vast range of therapeutic benefits due to the presence of much more water-soluble active ingredients than that of rose oil.

Rose water is chalk full of antioxidants, which are necessary to prevent damage to the skin caused by oxidative stress as it helps the skin to combat harmful free radicals, damage caused by UV rays and environmental pollutants.

Our rose water is from the Damascena rose (Bulgarian rose), and once you try what women from North African countries have used for thousands of years, you will never go back to using harsh chemicals on your face and body again.
